Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Azure Cloud Architect to lead the development and execution of its cloud strategy. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in establishing the Cloud Architecture practice, mentoring the existing cloud team, and driving cloud transformation initiatives across state agencies. This role requires a highly skilled professional with deep expertise in Azure and a broad understanding of enterprise cloud ecosystems, particularly in public sector or government environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement cloud infrastructure aligned with security, performance, and cost-efficiency goals.
• Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using best practices for scalable and repeatable deployments.
• Support agency cloud adoption through architectural planning and hands-on environment setup.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation including design diagrams, configuration standards, and runbooks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (security, networking, applications, etc.) to ensure seamless integration and alignment.
• Advise on best practices for Azure-native tools, resource policies, RBAC, tagging strategies, and monitoring solutions.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, escalating when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise governance and security standards (e.g., NIST 800-53, data privacy regulations).
• Provide weekly status reports summarizing completed work, project updates, deliverables, identified risks, and upcoming priorities.

Mandatory Qualifications:

1. Minimum 5 years of experience with Azure Cloud architecture, including frameworks and cloud pattern design.
2. 5+ years of experience with cloud platforms such as Aurora, Elastic Beanstalk, PaaS, IaaS, Cloud Databases, Ansible, and Kubernetes.
3. Proven ability to architect solutions in a DevOps environment and support ongoing cloud operations.
4. Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to debate design decisions and recommend optimal technologies.
5. Experience mentoring and guiding cloud teams in both technical and strategic areas.
6. Familiarity with State of Missouri IT systems and processes, including security, infrastructure, cloud services, and large-scale IT project management.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience in public sector or government environments.
• Experience with enterprise cloud governance, policy management, and multi-cloud integration.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert).

Reporting & Deliverables:

The Azure Cloud Architect is expected to submit weekly status reports outlining:

• Work completed and engineering activities.
• Progress on agency initiatives and project milestones.
• Deliverables produced (e.g., scripts, diagrams, documentation).
• Identified risks and technical issues.
• Priorities and objectives for the upcoming week.
